There has been recent confusion surrounding FCC Registration Number (FRN) update requirements and potential fines.
A recent alert suggested that all FRN holders could face fines of up to $1,000 per day (and up to $10,000 forfeitures) for failing to update FRN information within 10 business days.
After review and confirmation:
- The new, increased penalties apply ONLY to Robocall Mitigation Database (RMD) filers.
- Broadcasters and other non-RMD FRN holders are NOT subject to these steep fines.
- Broadcasters should still maintain accurate FRN information, but there has been no rule change impacting LPTV or television licensees.
