The Advanced Television Broadcasting Alliance held their Wednesday weekly webinar, which featured Perry Atkinson, President of theDove Media, who discussed how he and his station has adapted to the dire effects of the pandemic.

“The FCC came out with an interpretation a few weeks ago, which basically says that you can give free spots away, as long as they’re not part of a current running schedule,” said Atkinson, speaking on the political rate rule. “We saw that as a real opportunity for public relations and, also, really as a service to the community.”

Atkinson went on to speak of a plan, the Working Together 2020 Plan, in which theDove would offer advertisers 20 spots in April, as well as 20 spots in May, at no charge.

“This let’s the advertisers know that we’re working with them and has helped them to keep their name out there. It’s our way of kind of giving back and working together to get to the other side of this thing,” said Atkinson.

“This is a golden time for us, as an LPTV operator, because you’ve got everybody at home watching,” said Lee Miller, ATBA Executive Director.

“As hard as it was to stay in the LPTV business through the repack, it was well worth it considering where we are today. This is our hour to be on the air, the opportunity couldn’t be better.”

The ATBA webinars are on Wednesdays at 3pm CT. To access this meeting join the ATBA email list or check the Advanced Television Broadcasting Alliance site for updates.
