Low-power television stations (LPTVs) and translators that lost their channels through the FCC’s 2017 auction of UHF spectrum to wireless operators have until tomorrow, June 1, to file applications for new channels with the FCC. That deadline kept many broadcast engineers and RF consultants at their desks through the Memorial Day holiday weekend, poring through paperwork and finalizing plans that have been many months in the making.

“One of the consulting engineers I was talking to said he was thinking about becoming an air traffic controller, so he could finally get some rest,” quips Phil Titus, KUED Salt Lake City director of engineering, who is involved in the relocation process for hundreds of translators across Utah.
